Botswana: We travelled from Kasane to Livingston in Zambia and had to bribe our way to the top of the enormous queue as there is only one car ferry and one way to cross the border. Paperwork was in triplicate. We camped on the side of the Zambezi. We saw hippos wallowing in the mud and Elephants swimming across islands during our river cruises which were titled either Booze Cruise or Sunset Cruise . The sunset cruise and the booze cruise were exactly the same thing except that the Booze cruise boat was full and the sunset cruise boat was not. Both offered unlimited drinks and food!
You get very wet at Victoria Falls, as the pathway is showered constantly by the spray of the Falls. They are truly magnificent and well worth the visit.
We could not visit them from the Zimbabwe side due to the internal conflict. I was told that inflation in Zimbabwe is now 840% and that a loaf of bread could cost 1m of their currency. Livingston is known as the party town with all sorts of activities to part you from your money. I took a helicopter flight over the Falls. They are getting bigger every year due to the deterioration of the land around the river and new cracks breaking out. I also went on an Elephant safari and had great fun watching the baby elephants play in the mud and frolic. One lady elephant ran off with the wild elephants but when she fell pregnant she came back to have her baby at the camp which showed how safe she felt there. The gestation period for an elephants is 22 months.
