Buenos Aires

“Tango show, Tango show” the vendors cry.Walk down the main shopping district Florida and you can buy anything to do with Tango, from Tshirts, paintings, tango shows to wonderful sexy colourful towering stiletto tango shoes while listening to electronic tango blaring out of music shop fronts or the more subtle music played by a live tango orchestra. The vendors range from Mexicans, Guatemalans to tango dancers selling their videos and dancing for pesos.
I headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina to dance tango and volunteer there. I volunteered with young children during their school holidays taking them to parks, museums etc which was as much fun for me as it was for the kids. After the holidays I found it hard to get volunteer work so I concentrated on learning Spanish, building my web site and dancing tango at night. I stayed with Loli, who was my friend Olivier’s girlfriend and is now his wife. Olivier is French and we met originally in Edinburgh dancing salsa. Loli did not speak English so it was a great way to improve my Spanish.
