Bulgaria: Bansko and the Rila Monastery

Superb, beautiful, stunning! there are not enough superlatives to describe the Rila monastery. The paintings of this ancient monastery It was founded nearly 13 centuries ago by Ivan of Rila. During this long period of time, the monastery was burned down and rebuild several times. The arches and the colonnades, the covered wooden stairs, the mural paintings and the icons all preserve the love of the hard working Bulgarians and the patient monks who built this place with their own hands in the 10th century. This also makes it the oldest monastery in Bulgaria. It is a Unesco World Heritage site
Bulgaria is a beautiful country with mountains and forests and beaches on the Black Sea.
I stayed in Bansko which is a lovely small town made popular by skiing the local mountains, golfing and its thermal waters. The village itself has beautiful old wooden buildings, cobbled streets and lovely little tavernas to eat and drink but the ski complexes and hotels around it are numerous.
