El Nido Palawan Philippines

El Nido is in a lovely remote corner of Palawan at the top of the Island. It is touristy but still relatively unspoilt. The small town of El Nido is surrounded by the backdrop of towering  limestone cliffs and stunning white beaches abound only a short motorbike taxi away. Diving, kayaking and island hopping are the favourite activities and everyone is very friendly. The town beach of El Nido is where the boats hang out and not a beach for sunbathing but rather a commercial beach. There is a wide variety of small hotels and restaurants alongside motorbike hire-shops, beach clothes shops and small stalls struggling to survive against their larger competitors. The town has a very rural feel and the streets are sandy and a short walk in any direction takes you to the edge of town. Ben and I had some great beach time. We snorkelled, swam and ate at the many huge buffets on the islands (all you can eat). On Palawan we stayed at a wonderful hotel but unfortunately it has a pet lion on show for people to be photographed. It was very traumatic to see as I think it was tranquilised and though it opened it’s mouth it could not roar. It paced the reception floor all day long.
