Puerto Lopez and Isla La Plata

Isla la Plata is called the poor man’s Galapagos and is well worth a visit. My favourite bird is the blue footed boobie who does a mating dance to attract his much larger female partner. He hops on one foot then the other and stick his tail feathers out. I am sure it is the origin of the Blues Brothers song “shake your tail feather”. I also saw the magnificent frigate bird who puffs his red chest to attract the female. These birds alone make the visit to Isla la Plata worthwhile but on the way there and back you might be lucky and see whales leaping out of the water or see sealions lolling on the beach and a turtle or two.

Isla la Plata means silver island and is reputed to be the place where Sir Francis Drake buried his treasure so you never know what you will find!
