Venice and Burano

Burano, the lace making island, is one of the most beautiful and colourful islands on the planet. Walking through the narrow street or following its long canal that meanders through the whole island your senses are assualted by the myriad of colours facing you. Lavender houses next to fuscia next to aquamarine next to burnt orange houses, colours of pale primrose, acid green, crimson, violet, sepia the list goes on. The canal reflects the colours and when a boat goes past the still water merges the colours into waves. This island lives through its deservedly popular tourism and it is now rare to find the lace makers who are usually little old ladies dressed in black. There are no hotels or guest houses on the island so after 5pm almost every tourist has gone. I was lucky to spot a small notice in a window and stayed overnight to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful place without the tourists.
