Cayambe

Cayambe is an extinct volcano north of Quito. It is Ecuador’s third highest peak. The village of Cayambe underneath the volcano  is populated by indigenous people who are descendants of the pre-Inca Kayambi people. This area hosts numerous flower plantations. I stayed in Hacienda Guachala one of the oldest haciendas in the area dating back to 1580. It even had it’s own church for it’s workers. It had lots of lovely antiques including a travelling suitcase which was more like a piece of furniture. It also had a lovely little photo exhibition.
