CENIT- Dia del Familia

Cenit el Centro de la Nina Trabajadora is a wonderful charity school which is run by Catholic nuns and started out as a charity for street girls to educate them and change their lives. It then invited the brothers of the girls to be educated and later started to work with whole families. This sytem works because the children are not only being educated but the parents too are being educated. 70% of teh families that CENIT works with are single parent families. 30% of the families are indigenous people who lived on the mountains of Cotopaxi and Cayambe and have come down from when teh rains or volcanic ash destroyed their smallholdings. these people live 7-8 in one room and are not entitled to the state benefits that other people living in poverty can access. Cenit helps the families to become legitimate to get free medical help but meanwhile while they are waiting CENIT organises what they need. CENIT also gives out free food and medical help and advice because these people live well below the national average wage and cannot afford things like prescriptions.
CENIT organises small concerts for Mother’s day and Family day. It has a very good volunteer system and charities both in the UK and Germany help with contributions and volunteers.
