Kerala Yoga and Fort Kochi

The first part of my journey was to visit Kerala India which has been on my to do list for many years. Fort Kochi in Kerala is a stunningly beautiful fisherman village with lots of little cobbled streets, houses with blue doors and many cute cafes and restaurants. Enormous Chinese fishing nets hang over the Indian Ocean and the fishermen will lower them for the tourists to take photos. Sadly the nets are not used for fishing anymore. The main town Cochin is a jumble of high rise shops, full of brightly coloured Indian outfits, and hotels and small individual shops and homes. The main streets are modern and business like and the back streets are where living and eating take place. The hooting and beeping cars fight with horse and cart and bicycles and make up a typical Indian scene. Ben and I met to spend the New Year getting fit and healthy doing yoga. We stayed with an Indian family who ran an Ashram. Solaman took us through the basic positions and increased the difficulty of the poses every day adding new ones. His wife was an excellent cook and even though I am usually ill with Indian food her cooking is so fabulous that I did not have one bad experience.
