Mexico: Publeos majicos part 2

Puebla- it was easy to find the bus from the airport. The weather was cold at night but hot through the day. This city only two hours from mexico city has lots of tunnels and wonderful churches . It is a very beautiful city with many tiled buildings.  I took a bus tour to see the city and as there is so much to see that it was very worthwhile. Great street art, colourful houses and the tiling is magnificent. The Leonardo da Vinci exhibition was great!

From Puebla I went to see the world´s largest pyramid and its 365 churches at the archaeological zone of Cholula: a UNESCO World Heritage site with the majestic Cathedral at the Main Square.
San Pedro Cholula – San Pedro Cholula is a historical and architectural treasure. Aside from its  supposedly 365 colonial-era churches (Hernán Cortés built one for every day of the year but I kind of doubt that there are that many), it also stands on the ancient Mesoamerican city of Cholula. Some ruins remain exposed though the vast majority are buried under the city streets. In fact, the gorgeously ornate Sanctuary actually happens to stand at the top of an ancient pyramid. I took a local bus and walked to Zocalo. Wonderful hilltop sanctuary and a pretty little town. I saw lots of churches but didn’t visit San Andres as I was exhausted visitng this marvellous town and its extensive ruins and its underground tours.

Next day visited Chiapas de Cores and by accident the Sumidero canyon which was on a day trip which i didn’t book but behind the Cathedral was the boat harbour for boat trips so I did it. Not great for photography but saw some crocodiles and the canyon was magnificent. How ever Chiapas de Cores was nice and interesting architecturally.

San Cristobal was lovely as ever. The market at the cathedral is interesting as many indigenous people go there to worship. No photos! they don’t like photos. Lots more shops than I remember. two walking streets where there is no traffic. persistent sellers.  Quite a walk into town about six blocks. Found a lovely coffee shop for a good breakfast. Now there are two walking streets so I walked about town and went to church on the hill.
Palenque. I stayed in a nice hostel and they gave me good advice of where to go and eat and see the locals partying. Only two nights so went to Palenque to take photos. Palenque is a nice town with good accommodation and restaurants.

Bus journey to Zihuantenejo was a good journey as chose a comfortable bus with wifi and personal Tvs. We had lots of rain, a cyclone  with streets full of water. Jen had to wade in with bare feet as her flip flops couldn’t handle the water. Most evenings it rained. Went to La rRpa beach which was a steep walk uphill. Boat to Isla de Gatas. The main town beaches were not so nice. Went to Playa Linda which was mainly hotel beaches and we were not allowed there. There was a small aquarium with green geckos and crocodiles.
