Whales and Penguins
We were packed into the boat like sardines. The whales were enormous but I spent half my time protecting my camera bag as everyone ran to one side of the boat as soon as a whale was spotted. The mating season was over and so we spotted mothers and babies. It is very difficult to see where the mother ends and the baby begins. The best time of day ( I know now) is sunset or early morning when the whales are more active and the boats are less crowded. The penguins in Punto Tumba were a joy. They are such characters. They will follow you but you are not allowed to touch them as they can give a sharp nip and carry lots of germs. Some of the eggs had hatched but they were very protective of their nests which were shallow holes in the ground. There is good security to protect the penguins from over zealous tourists.
