Salar De Uyuni

This is a fabulous trip for the adventurous. I travelled from Bolivia to Chile by way of the Salir de Uyuni. We travelled through the 10582 square kilometre salt lake, past abandoned trains that have history of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid holdups, passing hot geysers spurting up from the ground and beautiful lagoons full of flamingos. Laguna Verde is the green lake because of the copper sediment and Laguna Colorado is the red coloured lake because of minerals and you can imagine with the gorgeous pink Flamingos that it is quite a unique sight to see. The salt flats are amazingly picturesque and you have the opportunity to sleep in a hotel made entirely from salt. On the way to Chile you pass the Atacama desert. Unfortunately being part of a big tour and also because I wanted to jump off the tour to go to Chile I did not get the photo opportunities I would have wished e.g. sunset shots of the salt flats. In actual fact I was left abandoned in the desert with the promise of a pick up truck in the middle of nowhere but luckily the pickup truck did arrive, albeit later than expected leaving me with some anxious moments. Words cannot express the beauty of this area. The blinding whiteness of the salt flats, the strange train cemetery in the middle of nowhere and the gorgeous desert. Accommodation was interesting as all the travellers from our group slept together in one big room. Pre-warned we had snacks and drinks and it was fun.
