Tipon and Urcos

We had intended to spend the weekend in Andahuaylillias which is my favourite church in all of Peru. It is heavily decorated with painted murals but I like the three crosses outside the church which throw their shadow on the church. It is a tiny village to have such an amazing church but was once a place of major importance. Now it is just a sleepy farming village and we found it very difficult to get accommodation or food. We eventually found beds in a type of sanatorium where they practised natural health treatments. It was a weird feeling to leave the place in the morning with our backpacks while there were queues of people waiting for treatment. The staff were into cockfighting and proudy showed us teh winning birds. Then we followed the band! We found people in the square dressed in strange devil like costumes and asked where they were going. There was a festival in Urcos so we caught the next bus going along with various band members and found ourselves a local festival which was not advertised.Tipon is an Inca site with lots of terrces. It has a great deal of water and is irrigated and has fountains.
