Paris

Climbing up to Montemarte my favourite area in Paris and sitting in the little cafes watching life go by as the street artists making their living from drawing portraits is a wonderful way to spend your day. Sacré Coeur de Montmartre, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart looms over the area in its majesty.

“The highest point in the city of Paris is the Butte de Montmartre, “Martyrs Hill,” so-called because, according to legend, this was where Saint Denis, the patron saint of France, was beheaded by the Romans in approximately 250 CE. According to legend, after he was deprived of his second most valued appendage, Saint Denis stood up, leaned over, seized his own head and walked with it for 10 kilometers due north, finally collapsing at the site where now stands the Basilica of Saint Denis in a suburb called, for reasons that have baffled historians for centuries, Saint Denis.” the Paris pass.
