Otovalo

Otovalo has a colourful Saturday market in Plaza de Los Ponchos selling blankets, rugs, tapestries, scarves and foodstuffs like grains. At 5 am you can see the animal market and later in the day the vegetable and artefacts market. The market ladies dress in long black skirts, white embroidered blouses and wear multiple gold (coloured) rings of necklaces wound round their necks. The men wear white breaches and tunic tops. The market though touristy is also ethnic. The artefacts include multi-coloured tapestries, necklaces, scarves, tablecloths, handbags all beautifully woven close by.
