Great Wall

Ben took me to the wild wall of the Great Wall- this is the name for the wall that has not been improved.  The  Wild Wall is not restored and is dangerous in places. Looking down from a great height into the vegetation below you can only marvel at what a feat it was to build this wall. We had lovely clear skies and although it was bitterly cold it was amazing to see one of the wonders of the world! We hired a car and stayed in a local farmhouse overnight so that we could “walk the wall” The bed was warmed by a wood fire being lit under the bed underneath the farmhouse and was cosy in a village that did not have such things as electricty or central heating and what’s more we didn’t burn down! The toilets were a challenge however.
We went skiing to get away from the throngs at Chinese New Year but our little village had their own party. The fireworks started at 4am and continued throughout the morning. It was impossible to see the streets as the smoke was so thick. I woke up thinking I must be in Beirut.
